Township will follow up on its "Centre Wellington is not a willing host community" resolution

On June 24, Centre Wellington council unanimously approved their Strategic Plan that addresses issues and priorities throughout the current term of office from 2019 to 2022.

The Strategic Plan is a 'to do list’ used for setting strategic directions and making decisions, as well as undertaking new initiatives. Click here to view the plan.

Within the plan are two very important statements:

1. Take action to protect the municipal water supply from new commercial water taking for the purpose of water bottling.

2. Advocate that the Province eliminate water taking for new commercial water bottling purposes.

This is an important direction, and we congratulate our Council on undertaking these priorities. The public now needs to continue its efforts in advocating to the Provincial government.

We remember and acknowledge that we are on traditional First Nations land. The Middlebrook well is situated on the Haldimand Tract, which is treaty land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. We express gratitude to the original stewards in this area, the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Attawandaron or Neutral peoples, and endeavour to honour this history by strengthening our relationship with land and water and continuing responsible stewardship.
