The December 9 deadline for public consultation on the Government of Canada's 'Proposed Integrated Management Approach to Plastic Products to Prevent Waste and Pollution' is quickly approaching. You may have seen the petition we are supporting (https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-2958), which seeks to add plastic water bottles to the list of banned plastics. This would be in addition to plastic bags, stir sticks, straws, 6-pack rings, cutlery and food ware, which are already listed.

Our friends, The Ottawa Water Study/Action Group, are also working towards adding plastic water bottles to the list of banned single-use plastics and have created a link to make it easy to send a letter to Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change: https://cdn.jotfor.ms/owsag.info/bottled-water-in-2021-plastics-ban. His contact details are also listed below in case you'd like to draft your own message and follow up your email with a phone call.

We remember and acknowledge that we are on traditional First Nations land. The Middlebrook well is situated on the Haldimand Tract, which is treaty land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. We express gratitude to the original stewards in this area, the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Attawandaron or Neutral peoples, and endeavour to honour this history by strengthening our relationship with land and water and continuing responsible stewardship.
