Province announces one-year extension of the moratorium on water bottling permits

Updated: Jan 15, 2019

At 4 p.m. today, the extension of the moratorium on water bottling permits was approved, extending the moratorium another full year to January 1st, 2020.

We would like to extend an enormous ‘thank you’ to everyone who responded to the survey and commented on the registry. We collectively spoke up to our provincial government and voiced our concerns regarding water taking policies. Thank you for speaking up to protect groundwater for future generations!

We remember and acknowledge that we are on traditional First Nations land. The Middlebrook well is situated on the Haldimand Tract, which is treaty land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. We express gratitude to the original stewards in this area, the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Attawandaron or Neutral peoples, and endeavour to honour this history by strengthening our relationship with land and water and continuing responsible stewardship.
